Spring Chicken Mosaic Crochet Pattern

Hi and welcome to the Hookanory crochet corner of the crochet-verse and my contribution to the Four Seasons Mix & Match MAL!
Spring has sprung, the chicks have hatched and mamma hen is clucking around the garden looking for grubs! You can make this cute folksy mosaic crochet design into a stylish table runner for Easter, or to create other cosy cottagecore décor, because as we all know, home is where the heart is!

This pattern is part of the Mix ‘N’ Match MAL hosted by Elimee Designs.
The idea behind this MAL is that you can take any of the motifs and use them to create a number of different projects, whether that’s a bag, scarf, cushion or blanket.
In this MAL the first 8 designs are FREE – you just need to hop over to each designer’s blogs to find the charts, however if you want the full charts and written instructions there is a couple of upgrades available!
HOW IT WORKS
This is a mix-and-match MAL (Make ALong), which means there is no single pattern to follow. Instead, there is a collection of 13 overlay mosaic crochet motifs, 8 free chart only patterns plus 5 extra designs available in the ‘Complete Stash’ E-Book upgrade. You get to choose which ones you make, how many, and in whatever order takes your fancy. Your project, your rules! There’s no time limit either! you can join in with the MAL on the hosts Facebook group whenever you like!
The free charts and the bundle are evergreen so that means they are available as long as the designers’ blogs exist, so you can come back any time!
All the designs in the Four Seasons Mix & Match MAL are compatible with each other AND all other charts from collab mosaic blanket CALs hosted By Elimee Designs – so you may well already have some of those in your stash you can seek out to combine with your MAL! exciting eh?

A Mix & Match MAL Mosaic Pattern
This pattern is worked in the 2 colour overlay (no pun intended!) mosaic crochet technique.
This technique is one of the simplest mosaic crochet techniques, whereby the colours alternate each row, joining and fastening off at the end of each row, forming side ‘fringes’. The edge stitches are worked in both loops. The pattern is worked in sc (UK dc) in the BLO (back loop only) for all stitches except the ‘overlay’ stitches which are worked as a FLO (front loop only) dc (UK FLOtr) into the stitch 2 rows below, thus covering over the stripe of the alternative coloured row in those sections.
This pattern is based on a 48 +3 stitch repeat and is therefore compatible with all my other Mosaic Crochet blanket strip patterns and the charts from the Blanket CAL collaborations I have been involved in, which you can find on my blog under the tab ‘Free Patterns’
PATTERN NOTES
This pattern is a 29 row overlay mosaic chart, with 48 stitch repeat (plus 3st = 1 buffer stitch and 1 start and end of row stitch) So for example, if you want to make a 3 motif repeat, your starting chain stitch count will be 49 x 3 = 147 plus 2 = 149 plus 1st turning chain = ch 150
YARN REQUIREMENTS FOR ONE REPEAT – approx 50m per colour for a 2 colour design
HOOK SIZE – 4MM
GAUGE – 18st X 18r = 4 inches / 10 cm approx using DK/Light Worsted weight Yarn
SIZE (of 1 repeat) 10.5 inches / 26cm approx using using DK/Light Worsted weight Yarn
